Rust in Peace - Megadeth

Here it is, one of the greatest albums in music history, Rust in Peace. It is a masterpiece indeed, and you cannot deny its perfection. A very technical albuma s well, just listen to Hangar 18, no noob can play that perfectly. This is one the best albums in thrash metal, alongside with Reign in Blood or Master of Puppets, which I shall post later on ;)

Politics, warfare and the environment are the main topics explored throughout the album, with songs such as "Rust in Peace... Polaris," which is about intercontinental ballistic missiles, and their effects on the world (Polaris refers to Polaris missile); "Take No Prisoners," which is about prisoners of war; and "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," which is a two-part song containing "Holy Wars," which is not referring to any historical place or event (although, according to some sources, was influenced by the reaction of the crowd to Mustaine's comment about unity of Ireland during a concert which took place there, despite the obvious reference to Israel on the lyrics) and "The Punishment Due," which is about the Marvel Comics character The Punisher, of which Mustaine was a huge fan at the time. "Dawn Patrol" is about the environment being destroyed by global warming and greenhouse gases.
"Five Magics" references to the obscure fantasy film Goreblade: Warrior King of the Universe, in which the hero who lives by the sword must master the five magics to become Warrior King and marry the princess, although he is warned that the power could corrupt him as it did the previous master

1 Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

2 Hangar 18

3 Take no Prisoners

4 Five Magics

5 Poison was the Cure

6 Lucretia

7 Tornado of Souls

8 Dawn Patrol

9 Rust in Peace... Polaris

Painkiller - Judas Priest

A masterpiece, thats how I would defined it if you ask me, but listen for yourself dear web navigator.

Painkiller is a 1990 gold-certified album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, their 12th studio album. The album was recorded at Miraval Studios, Brignoles, France in early 1990, and mixed at Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum, the Netherlands later that year. It was the first album with current drummer Scott Travis. The original LP, cassette and CD versions were released on September 3, 1990. A re-mastered CD was released in May 2001. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance at the February 20, 1991 33rd Annual Grammy Awards.

Judas Priest returned to their classic '70s style, while borrowing contemporary speed metal techniques, resulting in their most critically acclaimed album in a decade. The album is viewed by some as the quintessential speed metal album and the style proved highly influential to European power metal bands such as Gamma Ray and Primal Fear.
Following the tour for this album, singer Rob Halford left the band and maintained little contact with his former bandmates throughout the 1990s. The reason for this was due to growing tension in the band, although not, as popularly attributed, because of Halford's homosexuality. Halford wanted to create his new band, Fight, and had to legally leave Judas Priest to allow his creation to be sold. Judas Priest declared that they did not exist anymore after Halford had left. However, they would record and tour a few years later, with singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens, on the albums Jugulator and Demolition.

The Painkiller itself is one of a series of fictional messiahs created by Judas Priest. The Painkiller is described as a metal messiah sent to the world to destroy evil and rescue mankind from destruction. The Painkiller is believed to be inspired by the fallen angel from the Sad Wings of Destiny album cover that Judas Priest recorded early in their musical years. He also makes an appearance along with the Hellion (from Screaming for Vengeance) on the cover of Metal Works '73-'93, and a reappearance on the cover of Angel of Retribution.
The most noticeable feature of the Painkiller, besides his metal body is that he 'rides the metal monster'; a motorcycle with a dragon for the chassis and two circular saws for wheels

Black Clouds & Silver Linings-- Dream Theater

It is a fantastic album, really. A kind of album only a band like Dream Theater may produce.

Dream Theater began work on the album in October 2008. Mike Portnoy described Black Clouds & Silver Linings as, "a Dream Theater album with "A Change of Seasons", "Octavarium", "Learning to Live", "Pull Me Under" and "The Glass Prison" all on one album."Jordan Rudess later explained, "We've been entering into the Gothic domain quite a bit on this album. There's nothing like a really, really powerful and cool choir sound."
The album's lyrics were written by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy, and all except one concern personal experiences about disturbing or difficult moments of their lives. Petrucci wrote "A Nightmare to Remember" about a car accident he was involved in as a child, "The Count of Tuscany" about an actual encounter he had in Tuscany, and "Wither" about his own fear of writer's block. "The Best of Times" was written by Mike Portnoy about his father, who died from cancer. "I just wanted to write something that was a tribute to our life together," said Portnoy, who played the song for his father prior to his death."The Shattered Fortress" is the final part of Portnoy's Twelve-step Suite, reprising and concluding themes and motifs from the suite that began on 2002's "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" album. The remaining song, "A Rite of Passage", concerns Freemasonry; a video of the edited single was released on May 8, 2009

Vulgar Display Of Power-- Pantera

This is a kick ass album by the groove metal band Pantera, it is an awesome record, sorry i didnt publish new stuff i had just had some kidney stones removed.:S

One of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s, Vulgar Display of Power is said to have played a major role in defining post-thrash metal, slowing down the tempos and incorporating a harder-edged vocal style. Several songs from this release have become some of the band's best known, such as "Fucking Hostile", "Mouth for War", "This Love", and "Walk", the latter of which reached #35 on the UK Singles Chart.

Pornography--- The Cure

This is a fantastic album, a masterpiece by itself. It is considered to be the pinnacle of the dark trilogy, which includes seventeen seconds and faith. I myself, find this to be one of my favorites albums of post punk genre, and my favorite of The cure.

Often cited as The Cure's darkest album, its opening lyrical line is "It doesn't matter if we all die".
Despite the fact that very few critics in the British press gave the album a favourable review, Pornography charted well in the UK and has gained much more respect over the years, to the point that it is now considered one of the key gothic rock albums of all time.
Pornography is also the last Cure album to feature founding band member Lol Tolhurst as the band's drummer; He became the band's keyboardist, and this also marks the first time he played keyboards on a release by The Cure.
The album's artwork is the first in The Cure's output not to feature the logo for the group's name which was used on their previous releases.
In 2002, The Cure performed Pornography live in its entirety, along with Disintegration and Bloodflowers, as part of the Trilogy concerts.

1 "One Hundred Years" – 6:40
2 "A Short Term Effect" – 4:22
3 "The Hanging Garden" – 4:33
4 "Siamese Twins" – 5:29
5 "The Figurehead" – 6:15
6 "A Strange Day" – 5:04
7 "Cold" – 4:26
8 "Pornography" – 6:27

Wish you were here- Pink Floyd

Im very sorry for not posting new stuff, I've been really busy graduating from highschool XD.

Wish You Were Here is a concept album by Pink Floyd on released on Harvest Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in the United States. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios between January and July 1975 and released on 15 September 1975. The album is regarded as one of Pink Floyd's greatest albums and was ranked 209 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Its lyrics, written by Roger Waters, concerned the music industry, and questioned the market-oriented record companies' lack of understanding and interest for musicians. The album also pays tribute to Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's former guitarist and chief songwriter, especially with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and the title track itself.
1 Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Part I-V)
2 Welcome to Machine
3 Have a Cigar
4 Wish You Were Here

Featured Band--- Tool

Tool is so far from being a simple rock band trying to play their instruments really fast or trying to win grammys or platinum awards. They are an artrock band with a very dark oriented music, they are characterized also for being a progressive metal band but this one is very special. Tool reminds me of the first time I heard Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath, they have this aura of darkness in the music.
Their is music is very singular, just imagine pink floyd as a metal band with a more dark touch although they stated as a primary influence King Crimson, even Robert Fripp said "I happen to be a Tool fan. The members of Tool have been generous enough to suggest that Crimson has been an influence on them. Adam Jones asked me if I could detect it in their music, and I said I couldn’t. I can detect music, and I said I couldn’t. I can detect more Tool influence in King Crimson, than I can hear King Crimson in Tool."

This band is highly recomended for those of you who like very strange rare and unusual type of music including metal obviously. I recommend Lateralus a simple masterpiece, a pice of art.

Porcupine Tree -- Fear of a Blank Planet

Fear of a Blank Planet (also Transmission 6.1) is the ninth studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree and their best selling to date, released on April 16, 2007 in the UK and Europe, and on April 24, 2007 in the United States. Steven Wilson has mentioned that the album's title is a direct reference to the 1990s Public Enemy album, Fear of a Black Planet. He explained that race relations were a major issue when it was released and he sees "coming to terms with information technology and...the 21st century" as a modern issue

The concept of the album was heavily influenced by Bret Easton Ellis' novel Lunar Park. The novel is told from the perspective of a father, who bears the name of the novel's author himself, whereas the album is mostly from his son's perspective, an eleven-year-old kid named Robby. Many of the lyrics for Fear of a Blank Planet are lifted directly from the novel, particularly "My Ashes", which is an homage to the last chapter, in which the ashes of Bret's father are scattered and cover the memories of his life.
The lyrics deal with two typical neurobehavioural developmental disorders affecting teenagers in the 21st century: bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder, and also with other common behaviour tendencies on youth like escapism through prescription drugs, social alienation caused by technology, and the feeling of vacuity product of information overload in the mass media. In an interview with Revolver magazine, Wilson described the main character of the story as "...this kind of terminally bored kid, anywhere between 10 and 15 years old, who spends all his daylight hours in his bedroom with the curtains closed, playing on his PlayStation, listening to his iPod, texting his friends on his cell phone, looking at hardcore pornography on the Internet, downloading music, films, news, violence.

Featured band of the Day--- Porcupine Tree

Now, this is an awesome band with a LOT of talent and you will notice now i shall post two videos I hope you enjoy our introduction to the band.

Porcupine Tree are a progressive rock band formed by Steven Wilson in 1987 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. Their music is a combination of rock, ambient, psychedelia, and metal.
During the nineties the band focused mainly on psychedelic music although they incorporated a wide range of styles of electronic music, from trance, krautrock and ambient due to Steven Wilson and Richard Barbieri's liking for the Kosmische Musik scene of the early '70s, led by bands such as Tangerine Dream, Neu! and Canto more recently metal. For live shows, Porcupine Tree make use of a screen that displays a different projection for each song. This visual element was introduced during the In Absentia tour, when the band started to work with Danish photographer and film-maker Lasse Hoile, whose works help to create a distinctive image for the band.
Despite being signed to Roadrunner in Europe and Atlantic in the U.S., the band have their own record label, Transmission, which they use to launch some independent releases and special limited editions of their albums

Featured Band of the Day--- Pink Floyd

This band is the father and mother of all this other inferior bands, they basically made progressive and psychodelic rock what it is today.

an English rock band who initially earned recognition for their psychedelic and space rock music, and later, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. Pink Floyd are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative album cover art, and elaborate live shows. One of rock music's most successful acts, the group have sold over 210 million albums worldwide including 74.5 million albums in the United States. Pink Floyd influenced progressive rock artists of the 1970s such as Genesis and Yes, as well as contemporary artists such as Nine Inch Nails and Dream Theater.
Pink Floyd were formed in London in 1965 when Syd Barrett moved down from Cambridge and joined The Tea Set, a group consisting of Regent Street Polytechnic architecture students Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Bob Klose. The group had moderate mainstream success and were one of the most popular bands in the London underground music scene in the late 1960s as a psychedelic band led by Syd Barrett. However, Barrett's erratic behaviour eventually led his colleagues to replace him with guitarist and singer David Gilmour. After Barrett's departure, singer and bass player Roger Waters gradually became the dominant force in the group by the late-1970s, until his departure from the group in 1985. The band had always been popular in England, though they did not achieve true worldwide success until the concept albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), and Animals (1977), and the rock opera The Wall (1979).
In 1985, Waters declared Pink Floyd "a spent force", but the remaining members, led by Gilmour, continued recording and touring under the name Pink Floyd. Waters sued them for the name and eventually they reached a settlement out of court, under which Gilmour, Mason and Wright would continue as Pink Floyd. They again enjoyed worldwide success with A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994). Waters performed with the band for the first time in 24 years on 2 July 2005 at the London Live 8 concert

Featured Band of the Day---- Opeth

Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal band founded in Stockholm, in 1990. While the band has been through several personnel changes, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mikael Ã…kerfeldt has remained Opeth's driving force since joining shortly after its inception.

Featured Band of the Day-- Rotting Christ

Rotting Christ is a Greek Melodic Black Metal Bandformed in 1987. They are noted for being one of the first bands of the genre within this region, as well as a premier act within the European underground metal scene. In their two decades of existence, the band started as raw black metal, but utilized what has been described as a "dark metal" direction on later releases, almost doing away with the title, but not compromising their extreme sound.
During their rehearsal era in the late 1980s, the band began as grindcore and released various demos and splits with other bands from the Athens area. The group would later alter their sound with influence from proto-black metal bands like Celtic Frost and Venom, and in the process became one of the genre's instigators. Their 5 song demo, Satanas Tedeum, would show a grindcore/black metal crossover, followed by their career-breaking EP, Passage to Arcturo, in 1991.
One of band's first major appearances was on the 1993 "Fuck Christ Tour" consisting of Immortal and Blasphemy. During this concert, some audience members had engaged in cutting and self mutilation that resulted in hospitalization. Before signing to Unisound, Mayhem's Øystein Aarseth had expressed interest in distributing the band through his "Deathlike Silence Productions" label, but due to Aarseth's murder the same year, nothing materialized. The band would sign to Century Media in 1996 and remain on their roster for 10 years before joining Season of Mist.

Featured Band of the Day--- Death

Death was an influential american death metal band founded in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner, considered a "pioneering death metal vocalist/guitarist". The band split up after Schuldiner's death in the year 2001.
Death is considered one of the most influential groups in death metal. The band's debut, Scream Bloody Gore, has been described as "death metal's first archetypal document". One music biographer has referred to Schuldiner as the "father of death metal" while another has claimed that Schuldiner is "readily acknowledged as the true founder of the U.S. death metal scene". However, Schuldiner dismissed such attributions by stating, in an interview with Metal-Rules.com, "I don’t think I should take the credits for this death metal stuff. I’m just a guy from a band, and I think Death is a metal band".

Featured Band of the Day---Psyopus

Well, i think this band deserves a very special mention in our blog. It is a technical death metal band or mathcore, it is the same stuff. The reason I say this is because it is known by few, the band is noted for the unorthodox and extremely technical guitar techniques of it's guitarist Christopher Arp, he is so sick he actually had to send videos and prove he could actually play as fast as he does y order to get endorsements from various guitar and amp companies.

The Progressive Psychedelic Metal

We have created this blog to educate the world about progressive psychedelic metal and others derivatives of metal. Any great band considered to be really good, shall be cast down into this blog, of our humble servants.

The title of our blog was inspirated in a Pink Floyd song called Arnold Layne and this is sort of our space for that kind of madness only that its represented in the music posted here.
